In Russia there are dozens of aircraft and engine leasing companies. At present major Russian companies specializing in aircraft lease, sale, consulting and maintenance are supported by the State. For example, the Ilyushin Finance Co and Financial Leasing Company are private-state leasing companies (with the state shares in authorized capital - 38% and 62.7% accordingly) chosen on the basis of a tender by the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation in 2001.
Nevertheless most private leasing companies (as well as airlines) do not have enough capital for an aircraft acquisition or long-term lease. Therefore, the majority of leasing companies operates on the aircraft secondary market.
The TU-154 aircraft lease is a business priority for the Avialeasing Company. Avialeasing has been partnering with UTair Aviation for 5 years within the framework of Russian-built aircraft fleet moderniztion. Utair Aviation operates Russian-built aircraft (mainly TU-154) effectively showing good financial and operating results. In 2007 Utair ranked 5th in terms of passenger traffic among Russian airlines.
